Excellence Rising Congo School

History

Congo has had the worst war since World War II. Between the years of 1998-2004 the International Rescue Committee reported that 1,200 people died everyday because of the conflict. That’s the equivalent of three 9/11 terrorist attacks. A week. For seven years.

Congo is also home to many other United Nations “world’s worst statistics” including the Rape Capitol of the World, with 75% of the women being victims to sexual violence, and Worst place on earth to be a woman or a child.

With the war still raging along the eastern border, our heart is to see justice restored through active and practical methods of love.

What We Are Doing

GCM Congo is based in the eastern city of Goma. Working with those who have been displaced due to the war in the bush we dream to see restoration while empowering children through our first Excellence Rising Congo School. This primary school offers low cost-free education to families with development classes for the parents and special trainings for the teachers.

Since the beginning of summer 2010, GCM has also started moving out to the red zone of Congo’s jungle by buying property for our latest Justice Rising Project. Justice Rising was birthed out of a love for rebel soldiers and those suffering the most from the violence of war. With plans for another Excellence Rising preschool through secondary school we hope to take a holistic approach in seeing transformation to a community. We’re currently developing a feeding program for children, job opportunities for sexually violated women, creative outlets for trauma therapy- including counseling and outdoor play areas and basic health care for those with no current access to medical assistance.
Our heart is to continue traveling into rebel territory, bringing heaven to earth in some of the most unlikely places and watching the power of love lift areas drowning in war.

How Can You Help

Pray: Going into such high-risk areas, everyday feels like a miracle. More then ever before we are aware of our need for prayer!

Give: Right now you can help donate to construction on our latest Justice Rising holistic center in the bush. Beginning with a school with 5 classes to hold almost 200 kids, 8 latrines and a fence to surround the property, we’ve budgeted out the need of $16 000USD. From there we plan to hire 6 teachers from the area paying salaries of $50/month each and purchasing books and uniforms for each student at an estimated $20/student. We are currently looking for monthly sponsors as well as one-time donations to get the Center off the ground!
